Lonohana Estate Chocolate is a locally owned and operated tree-to-bar chocolate company creating high-quality, fine finished chocolate exclusively using cacao that is 100% Hawaiʻi-grown. 

Our commitment to using exclusively Hawaiʻi-grown cacao and years of perfecting our chocolate making expertise using many vintage machines has made us the leading producer exclusively making Hawaiʻi-grown chocolate in Hawaii.

Our mission is to help advance & revitalize the agricultural economy here in Hawaiʻi both by growing cacao responsibly, respecting the ecosystem and restoring Hawaiiʻs ʻāina through regenerative agroforestry on our 14-acre farm on the North Shore, and purchasing cacao from other local growers so that our industry can continue to grow and prosper.

Marketing Manager

Location: Kakaʻako

Reports to: Vice President Sales & Marketing

Compensation: Competitive annual salary based on experience

POSITION OVERVIEW

The ideal candidate has experience in developing and executing marketing campaigns and is comfortable working within a small, but passionate and talented leadership team, where they have the opportunity to make a significant impact and contribution to our Companyʻs growth and the overall direction of the Hawaii-grown chocolate industry. 

Playing a critical story-telling role in our company, the ideal candidate will have familiarity in both product promotion as well as experiential tourism, as conducting authentic agritourism experiences are a key part of sharing how world-class chocolate is grown here in Hawaii. What we seek is a perfect fit within our team, and someone who loves to nurture meaningful relationships and be an enthusiastic and authentic representative of one of Hawaii’s leading chocolate companies.  

Summary

Your role is central to maintaining consistent brand identity and corporate messaging as well as supporting all aspects of the Companyʻs sales. This job requires strong leadership with a commitment to quality, efficiency, organization and customer experience, while cultivating a high-performing team culture. 

This position is part of the senior management team and will play a critical role in consistently improving overall customer experience and awareness of the companyʻs products and mission. You will attend all management meetings and be a key contributor to ongoing improvements and new business development.

Objectives of this role

  • Partner with the VP of Sales & Marketing to translate sales priorities into clear, executable marketing plans

  • Drive demand and revenue across wholesale, retail, tours, and DTC channels

  • Own marketing performance reporting to inform go-to-market strategy and priorities

  • Refine positioning, identify target audiences and develop marketing plans with specific objectives across different channels and customer segments

  • Lead the execution of marketing programs from start to finish, leveraging internal support and driving collaboration with external partners and customers so that our sales division is supported and we meet our goals collaboratively

  • Drive awareness and long-term affinity for our products, farming practices, and promotion of Hawaiiʻs chocolate as a whole 

  • Create, maintain, and conduct analytics reporting across multiple platforms and extract key insights for future campaign development and go-to-market strategies, complete with formal proposals and recommendations on tactics

Responsibilities

  • Own the marketing calendar and track campaign performance, ROI, and impact on sales

  • Manage marketing budget and external vendors, freelancers, and creative partners

  • Work hand-in-hand with Sales Department to support all wholesale and in-house retail

  • Plan and execute seasonal campaigns and product launches aligned with sales and production calendars

  • Direct and mentor the Marketing Associate, setting priorities and ensuring alignment with sales and marketing goals and timelines 

  • Develop and lead creative direction for all public-facing communications, including in-person events, print, digital, and video

  • Develop and maintain sales enablement tools, including line sheets, pitch decks, POS assets, and product launch materials

  • Conceptualize and execute on multichannel campaigns, ensuring the alignment of communications and messaging across all channels

  • Coordinate Website & Social: Lead and make ongoing improvements to both existing and future opportunities to deliver Lonohana Chocolate digitally to those not in Hawaii 

  • Lead event promotion in coordination with our Retail & Events Manager

  • Oversee Factory Tours including promotion, staffing, scheduling and executing in coordination with our team members

  • Work closely with VP Sales & Marketing to expand partnerships with wholesale customers and external partners 

  • Package Design: Including new product packaging coordination; co-brand products; designer & printer coordination

  • Gather customer and market insights to inform outreach strategies, increase customer conversions, and continuously improve the customer experience

  • Identify effectiveness and impact of current marketing initiatives with tracking and analysis, and optimize accordingly

Required skills and qualifications

  • Drivers License with cleaning record.

  • Proven success in developing marketing plans and campaigns

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong project management, multitasking, and decision-making skills

  • Metrics-driven marketing mind with eye for creativity

  • Experience with marketing automation and CRM tools

  • Ability to commute daily to factory location. Clean driving license

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in marketing, business, or related field

  • Software proficiency: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Video Editing; Canva; Microsoft Office; Google; Email Campaign; Website development (Shopify); tour platform (FareHarbor)

  • Proficiency with online marketing and social media strategy

  • Established contacts in media

JOB TYPE: 40 hours per week, Full-time, Exempt

COMPENSATION: Competitive annual salary based on experience with performance incentives

Retail Sales Associate

Location: Kakaʻako

Reports to: Retail Experience Manager

Compensation: $16-$18 per hour based on experience

Employment type: Part-time (8-20 hours/week)

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an outgoing, friendly, professional and customer-oriented Sales Associate to join our team at our shop in Kakaʻako. The Sales Associate will play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding customer service, driving sales, and showcasing our locally made chocolates to ensure an exceptional chocolate experience for our customers. The ideal candidate will embody our company values and be able to convey them enthusiastically with customers while guiding them on an unforgettable chocolate tasting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers educate and guide them through tasting flights of our Hawaii-grown and Hawaii-made chocolate
  • Operate the point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently, processing transactions and handling cash or card payments.
  • Maintain a clean and organized retail environment, ensuring shelves are stocked, products are neatly displayed, and the store appearance is tidy and inviting to customers.
  • Provide customers with information about our chocolate products, including ingredients, flavor profiles, and any special promotions or events.
  • Promote the awareness of our chocolate factory tours, located 3 blocks from SALT in Kaka’ako
  • Collaborate with team members to meet and exceed sales goals while contributing to a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Communicate clearly and efficiently with team members via Slack about inventory and shop status
  • Maintain cleanliness of the shop, including sweeping and mopping floors, washing dishes, dusting shelves and products, watering plants, etc.
  • Open and close register, and take responsibility for cash counts
  • Willingness to work special events on occasion

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Prior retail or customer service experience is preferred.
  • Passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and creating positive memorable experiences for shoppers.
  • Knowledge or interest in chocolate, food, or gourmet products is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays, based on the needs of the business.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail setting.
